1953 Ford F-100 Custom Pickup | Chevy 350 V8, Restored Classic Truck in PA
1953 Ford F-100 – Custom Chevy 350 Build, Classic Craftsmanship in Pennsylvania
Route 61 Classics proudly presents this 1953 Ford F-100, a beautifully built custom pickup that combines Ford's iconic postwar styling with reliable Chevy 350 small-block power. Originally constructed by Terry Bowers of Murfreesboro, Tennessee for the 2000 F-100 Supernationals (Mild Customs class), this truck represents the perfect balance of craftsmanship, drivability, and classic street-rod flair.
Under the hood lies a rebuilt 1977 Chevy 350 V8 featuring an Edelbrock aluminum intake, Edelbrock 600 CFM Performer carburetor, Performer fuel pump, and direct-drive cam gears. A Mallory distributor upgraded with Pertronix electronic ignition ensures smooth starts and modern reliability. Power is delivered through a Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission and a GM 12-bolt rear with 3.42 gears, making this F-100 a comfortable highway cruiser.
The mechanical setup also includes power steering (Monte Carlo box), power front disc brakes (Ford Granada hardware), and a custom dual exhaust system by Meineke Muffler in Castle Shannon, PA. Cooling is handled by a rebuilt dual-core radiator, while a Mercury MerCruiser hydraulic tilt system adds convenience and engineering flair.
Finished in Sherwin-Williams 1989 Honda Tudor Red Metallic, this truck gleams with show-quality depth. Smoothed panels, reshaped running boards, inside tailgate latches, and a frenched power antenna give the exterior a clean, refined look. A polished wood bed floor with stainless strips and Cragar Street Star wheels complete its period-perfect stance.
Inside, you'll find a custom Cadillac bench seat, matching panels and headliner, Stewart-Warner gauges set in an engine-turned dash, and a tilt steering column. Even small touches—like the heater core setup and underfloor battery relocation—reflect thoughtful design and maintenance.
This 1953 Ford F-100 has been lovingly cared for, with detailed maintenance records noting Pennzoil 10W-30, Star Tron stabilizer, and a K&N air filter. It's a turn-key, honest classic that runs as good as it looks—built for shows, weekend cruises, and the true enthusiast who appreciates craftsmanship and dependability.
